The weather couldn't dampen the
fun
Dear Editor:
The rain was going to ruin the day-
The one in which much celebration would be underway.
Our country's 230th birthday with fireworks and fun-
Because of the rain was about to be undone.
We watched the skies and the rains continued to fall-
We prayed and hoped that the stuff would just stall.
And before we knew it, the sky began to clear-
We packed up our stuff and headed to our favorite place that was not far,
but quite near.
I was privileged to view the family of Robert Martinez, receiving a
memorial plaque-
From the Military Order of the Purple Heart,
The shared pride and compassion in the audience did not lack.
Didn't catch his name, but I was also honored to have my picture taken
with "the general."
He stood tall amongst everyone after fulfilling his life's call.
The band played and the kids swam, while some barbecued-
The sky stay cloudy, but everyone stayed in a hopeful mood.
The pool closed thank goodness for me-
Because pulling Amber out, without it closing, would be a catastrophe.
All the kids had enjoyed playing and swimming in the pool-
How better to celebrate the Fourth while staying cool.
The air was filled with barbecue and cotton candy-
Plenty of food for sale, making it quite handy.
The glowing necklaces and blinking pins came out, and the kids played
with glee-
The streets were filling up, as we all waited to see
The fireworks in the air, the main attraction-
But not until that last bite of barbecue was finished and done.
And just as the fireworks began to get underway,
We felt a few drops. What else can I say?
And a few more came, a little harder than the last-
But, heck, we'd been in the pool, so this little obstacle we'd get
past.
As it sprinkled, the sky began to light up with blue and green-
And many other colors that year after year we'd seen.
The show went on and the rain went on its way-
I'd have to say that this turned out to be a fantastic day.
The Fourth of July at Roman Forest is as good as it can be-
To have fun, enjoy the day and simply honor your country.
