Because of the urgency of the problem of illegal immigration, I think the topic deserves a little more elaboration. When the media and politicians refer to “Illegal Immigration” it is an amazing confession. But we have been conditioned to focus on the immigration aspect of the loss of our border, and the fact that it is “Illegal” is no longer alarming. We have been trained to accept this situation as something necessary and acceptable, only needing some adjustment. We are convinced that these “immigrants” just want to provide for their families and they do the hard work that Americans refuse to do. They are important members of our society, and after all, we are all immigrants. An alien who enters our country improperly is immediately a criminal.
Under Title 8 Section 1325 of the U.S.
Code, "Improper Entry by Alien," If we do not get illegal immigration under control, it will bankrupt our country. It is already putting such a heavy financial burden on hospitals that many are closing down. Most of the hospitals that can no longer operate are in the Border States, they simply cannot survive while giving free medical care on demand. Illegal immigration is crippling our education system. It is altering our culture so that it is becoming unrecognizable as American. The security of our country is in jeopardy, we do not even know who is crossing our border and entering our home (the U.S.A.). Rather than properly responding to criminal behavior, we are rewarding it by providing, free of charge, medical care, bilingual education, and welfare money. We bear the expense of providing for people who disregard our laws, who in fact are defined by that disregard. Our resources are being depleted by this illegitimate expenditure while deserving Americans are deprived. There are many troubling aspects about illegal immigration, and though it is a complex issue, the border is not a complex issue. Neither are resolutions to these problems complicated. You may have recently heard the suggestion that we build a fence. Why not? The expense of building a fence is small in comparison to the expense the Border States endure each year to accommodate the intruders. Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution states that Congress alone shall have the power “to establish a Uniform Rule of naturalization”. When someone enters our country illegally he has committed a federal crime. Why shouldn’t that person be deported and denied reentry? Our law enforcement officials ought to be empowered to require evidence of legal status whenever someone is pulled over in a traffic violation or arrested for a crime. Certainly when someone receives medical care at our expense, it is not unreasonable to require proof of legal status. If medical care involves childbirth to an illegal alien, the reward to the intruder should not be citizenship for the baby. We cannot condone special protection for those whose first act in our country is a felony, and we certainly cannot invite them to become citizens. Those employers who knowingly hire undocumented workers should be prosecuted. Likewise, anyone harboring and protecting illegals or helping them to obtain fraudulent identity should be promptly prosecuted. We have laws, enforcing them is not negotiable, nor is it complicated. Those who have happily become United States citizens ought to first be required to renounce their former citizenship. We can allow no dual citizenship; a person cannot be loyal to more than one country. It is a simple choice. English must be the official language of The United States of America. We need to stop this silliness of believing that our country can be a united while officially functioning in multiple languages. No more educational programs that allow English to be your second language. There can be no assimilation without communication, and communication will be in English. All government forms must be in English, the responsibility is on the immigrant to learn our language, not on us to learn theirs. No more paying the high cost of special bilingual education programs for legal or illegal immigrants, at the expense of our children’s education. No more amnesty programs, however they are termed. Amnesty has not been good in the past and it won’t work now. Any provision for illegal intruders, other than intervening in life threatening situations, must end. If we continue to offer so many rewards to anyone who can get here, there will continue to be a huge influx. The rewards must stop. Any one in public service who opposes enforcement of our laws ought to be relieved of his office for aiding and abetting felons. Our law enforcement agencies must be permitted to enforce laws. I can keep going, but will stop at this point. As American Citizens, we need to solve these problems soon. The fear of being politically incorrect has intimidated thinking people for too long. It is time to be strong and take courage, before our culture is corrupted and our nation is bankrupt and devoured. |
